Open call for funding to join the 2nd WIMANET Summer School
About the Summer School
The 2nd Summer Training School will take place from 18th โ 22nd August 2025 in the Life Science Centre, Vilnius University, Vilnius, Lithuania. The training school will consist of five days of lectures and practical activities designed to introduce students to microscopy skills related to working with Wildlife Malaria Parasites. Topics will include:
- Avian, reptiles and amphibian blood parasites,
- analysis of haematological parameters,
- introduction to haemosporidian tissue stages and histological analysis.
- specific topics can also be tailored to the requirements of the students.
The call for applications for the Wildlife Malaria Network Summer School Grants is open and will close on 10th March 2025.
About the application process
Applications are open to participants from EU and non-EU countries interested in learning techniques to work with wildlife malaria parasites. Applicants must have an eCOST profile and have applied to be a member of WIMANET in order for their application to be approved. You can apply to join WIMANET here. Applicants from EU and non-EU countries are welcome. Only EU applicants can be funded by COST. Non-EU applicants can attend to the summer school using their own funds. More about the geographical restrictions on funded places according to COST funding rules can be found in the Annotated Rules for COST Actions. All teaching materials will be available through the WIMANET website after the course has concluded.
Applications must be e-mailed to to the Grant Awarding Coordinator (alexandra.corduneanu@usamvcluj.ro) and WIMANET(wimanet.science@gmail.com).
The application consists of the following documents:
- a motivation letter detailing the benefits for the applicant and relevance of the training school to current research,
- anticipated travel budget in Euros (costs of transport to Vilnius, Lithuania, and travel insurance). WIMANET grants are available for EU participants. If you are a non-EU participant and are going to be funded by other grants, it should be clearly stated in the provided budget,
- a support letter from the Home Institution,
- a CV, including a list of academic publications if applicable.
The applications will be ranked by the Core Group based on:
- benefits to the applicant in terms of career progression,
- benefit and contribution to the development of the COST Action.
The selection will follow the COST policies on inclusiveness (gender, age, geography). The final ranking will be approved by the Action Chair and Co-Chair. All researchers who applied to the call will be informed of the outcome of their application by 24th March 2025. The selected researchers should wait for the official invitation from the Grant Holder before booking any travel arrangements.
